Wisp Resort, located in McHenry, is situated in the Alleghany Mountains of Western Maryland. Wisp is Maryland's premier year-round resort with skiing and snowboarding on 33 trails spread over 170 acres in the winter and a myriad of activities in the summer: escape games, a mountain coaster, miniature golf, indoor swimming pools, and a lot of other family-fun activities. It's also the home of two championship golf courses.

Fantasy Valley was designed by golf course architect Dominic Palombo, Jr, in 1980 and renovated by Todd Schroeder in 2008. Fantasy Valley has been named as a "100 Must-Play Courses of the Mid-Atlantic" by Golfstyles Magazine. The course is seamlessly woven into the natural contours of the land as it plays through and along tree-lined fairways. The bunkers have been strategically placed, as have several water hazards.

Golfers have four tee boxes to choose from, with yardages ranging from 4,362 to 6,446 yards, suitable for every level of golfer. I found the White Tees at 6,035 yards provided a fitting challenge.

There are a lot of changes in elevation as you make your way around the course. This is evident on the first hole, a 510-yard par 5, dogleg left, which rises significantly as you turn at the dogleg. What makes this hole so interesting is the large hardwood tree that sits about 100 yards from the tee box, dead in front of you. You need to decide whether you're going over it, under it, or around it. Hit the tree and you may be tempted to get a raincheck and try again tomorrow! Once you pass the tree and get to the dogleg, the hole opens up. You'll need to hit one or two extra clubs on the next two shots to reach the green. The 3rd hole is a challenging, 170-yard par 3 that plays significantly downhill and one club less than the stated yardage.

There's a good mix of open holes that let you swing away off the tee, and tree-lined gems that are going to require a little accuracy and finesse. Although the trees aren't always dense, they will obstruct your path to the green. Then there's the 4th hole, a 527-yard par 5 that is open off the tee but still requires accuracy. Hit it right, and you'll need to deal with a steep bank that will create more of a baseball swing than a golf stroke. Hit it left, and you'll be at the bottom of another steep bank. You'll need to deal with a small lake and a couple of fairway bunkers on the left with your layup before approaching the green.

If Number 18 isn't the signature hole, it should be. It's a par 3 measuring 158 yards from the White Tees, playing downhill over water to a large, well-undulated green with beautifully sculpted bunkers on the left and in back. It's very photogenic and looks like a hole any PGA TOUR pro would enjoy playing.

Lodestone Golf Course is located at the top of the mountain, a 10-minute drive from the hotel. PGA TOUR great Hale Irwin designed the course in collaboration with Todd Schoeder. Lodestone offers golfers 6 sets of tees and can be played anywhere from 5,185 to 7,475 yards.

The course has the look and feel of a mountain course with rolling terrain throughout. Each hole seems to be carved out from the surrounding forest and terrain. Unlike most mountain courses that feature heavily tree-lined fairways from tee to green, many of Lodestone's fairways are wide and welcoming, allowing less skilled players to enjoy their round. The course is carpeted in Bentgrass from tee to green. The bunkering is rugged, the greens have quite a bit of undulation, and, as you would expect from a golf course at the top of a mountain, there are significant elevation changes. Lodestone is known for having some of the largest greens on the East Coast, and although they may not be the fastest, they will truly test your putting skills. Many of the tee boxes are elevated; when you're playing a downhill hole, the ball seems to stay in the air forever.

As you play your way around the course, you'll drive past stunning log cabin homes, although they never come into play, they provide a welcome distraction! Wildlife is abundant, including deer, rabbits, groundhogs, and bears. Although we didn't see any of the latter, we did spot a lot of their "remnants," which sufficiently answered that age-old question about what a bear does in the woods!

Lodestone has many memorable holes. The 9th hole was one of my favorites, a slight dogleg right that plays 391 yards from the Silver tees. It's downhill all the way, with a fairway bunker on the left side of the landing zone and a lot of trees on the right. The approach shot into the green is visually stunning; a kidney-shaped green that slopes severely from back left to front right with a few ridges. Two deep, rugged-looking bunkers guard the left side, and there's a 3rd in back. Anything right of the green is going down a steep bank, and any putt from above the hole is going to be extremely quick. If, for some reason, the pin is in front, pray!

As you approach the 13th tee, walk to the back of the tee box and take in the breathtaking views of Deep Creek Lake below.

Number 17 is another favorite, a par 3 which plays 167 yards from the Gray Tees. The hole has two sets of tees that provide completely different angles into the green. Regardless, you're tee shot is all carry over a rock-faced gorge into a green that slopes front right to back left and is well-undulated. If it were up to me, I would name it "Rocky Top" and make it the signature hole!

The resort staff is very attentive and knowledgeable about the area. If you don't have what you need, they'll find it for you. Hotel General Manager, Freddie Harrison, has a golf background and can tell you everything about either course. Our room was a two-room suite that featured a living room area with a couch, an easy chair, a work desk, a big screen TV, and a Keurig coffee maker. The king-size bed was very comfortable; there was a 2nd TV in the bedroom, as well as a refrigerator and a safe. The bathroom was updated with a walk-in shower and a separate sink area. It was a great place to relax and unwind after a day on the golf course.

Wisp Resort offers guests several dining options, but none better than the Last Chair Bar + Bistro. Last Chair has a very laid-back atmosphere, and guests can warm up inside during the cold winter months or relax on the Beer Garden Deck during the summer. It's not your typical Ski/golf clubhouse menu, with appetizers like Candied Bacon Brussels Sprouts and Sauteed Mussels. Dinner Entrees include a house-cut New York Strip and Blackened Pecan Salmon, and my wife's new favorite, their Cajun Chicken Alfredo. For dessert, you can't go wrong with the Blueberry White Chocolate Cheesecake or the Peanut Butter Brownie Tower. It's all delicious!

With so many trees on both courses, as well as the magnificent views from a lot of the tee boxes, I can only imagine how colorful they are in the fall. For more information on your next visit to Wisp Resort, whether for golf or other adventure activities, visit them online at www.wispresort.com.

Scottsdale, Ariz. (April 3, 2024) - Troon®, the leader in providing golf and club-related leisure and hospitality services, is pleased to announce it has been selected to manage the Links at Perry Cabin in St. Michaels, Maryland. Troon Privé, the private club operating division of Troon, will manage golf operations, agronomy, sales and marketing, and on-course food & beverage.

Located along Maryland's storied Eastern Shore, the Links at Perry Cabin is enjoyed by club members and guests of the Inn at Perry Cabin. The 18-hole championship golf course, the last course completed by the legendary Pete and Alice Dye with son P.B. Dye, opened for play in 2018 and is considered one of the top golf courses in Maryland. Dye named the course's final three-hole stretch "Goodnight Kiss" with a short risk-reward par-four 16th hole, a replica of Pete Dye's 17th hole island green from TPC Sawgrass, and a bold closing hole that begins with a tee shot over a lake and continues with water up the entire right side. The course plays to a par of 72 and tips out at 7,023 yards.

"Do not let the course's unspoken beauty and sophistication fool you; it challenges you on many levels, from deceiving fairways to rollercoaster greens. This is a round of golf you wish would never end," said Inn at Perry Cabin General Manager Claudio Togo. "The partnership between Troon and the Links at Perry Cabin represents a synergy of excellence, and we are excited about the journey ahead. Together, we look forward to delivering unparalleled service and unforgettable moments to our members and guests."

The Inn at Perry Cabin, voted the No. 1 Mid-Atlantic resort by Conde Nast Traveler readers, is the quintessential Eastern Shore resort property. In addition to the Links at Perry Cabin, the Inn provides a number of upscale amenities including Spa at Perry Cabin, a fleet of five sailboats, a stately 55-foot Hinckley Yacht, and a 63 ft. historic Skipjack - the Stanley Norman. Adding to the authentic charm of the resort is a zero-edge swimming pool, impeccably manicured gardens, and complementary bicycles, kayaks and paddleboards, to explore the historic town of St. Michaels via land or by water. The historic Inn was featured in the movie "Wedding Crashers" and is located about 90-minutes from Washington D.C. and approximately two-and-a-half hours from Philadelphia.

"The entire Perry Cabin property is phenomenal, from the beautiful Inn and outstanding golf course, to the guest amenities and fleet of sail boats," said Troon Vice President of Operations Archie Cart, PGA. "Our Troon Privé management team will now look to further elevate the already tremendous operations at the Links at Perry Cabin. We are confident that our management practices and dedication to outstanding service will make an already exceptional property even better."

Historic club hosted a black tie gala, golf tournament with former Washington Commanders football players and a community day in celebration of its Centennial

The Country Club at Woodmore paid tribute to its rich history with a festive "100th Year Celebration" that honored its storied impact on the game of golf. Located near Washington, D.C., the club's diverse membership recently marked its Centennial with signature events across three celebratory days, highlighted by a 100th Anniversary black tie gala with over 160 attendees, a golf tournament that featured former Washington Commanders team members, a community day and more.

Acquired by Concert Golf Partners in 2014, Woodmore offers an unmatched golf experience for residents in Maryland and Northern Virginia as the only golf course in Maryland designed by Arnold Palmer. Along with golf, members enjoy three tennis courts, indoor and outdoor dining options, swimming and a year-round social calendar of events. Begun in 1923, as the nearby Beaver Dam Golf and Country Club, the original course was designed by noted golf architect Donald Ross and opened for play on Aug. 16, 1923, as a par 72, 6,775-yard layout. In 1941, the Club was bought and renamed Prince George's Country Club. "Old P.G." was host to a number of championship events, including the 1947 and 1948 National Capital Open on the PGA Tour. Reigning U.S. Open Champion Lloyd Mangrum won the event in 1947; and Skip Alexander was victorious in 1948. The U.S. Women's Open was won at the club by Louise Suggs in 1949, when she defeated Babe Didrikson Zaharias. One year later, both women became founding members of the LPGA.

"We're so proud of our heritage and excited about everything Woodmore represents to our members and the surrounding community," said Evan Neale, The Country Club at Woodmore Director of Golf. "Our 100th Year Celebration not only signified a historic moment in time, but also serves as a gateway to the exciting future of The Country Club at Woodmore."

In 1979, the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission purchased the golf course and its facilities for use as a recreational area for the county. The Club then moved to its current location at the corner of Enterprise and Woodmore Roads in Mitchellville, Maryland. The new course, designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, opened for play in 1981, as a par-72, 7,059-yard course from the championship tees. Concert Golf Partners, which is based near Orlando in Lake Mary, Florida, purchased Woodmore nine years ago.

Ocean City, Md., may be known for its iconic boardwalk and 10 miles of beautiful beach, attracting visitors year-round for a seaside vacation. Though in the golf community, Ocean City is known as the home to several of the finest golf options in the Mid-Atlantic. One such course, Eagle's Landing, has just been ranked as the top golf course in Maryland in the 2021 Golfer's Choice list. Generated by GolfPass.com, the list is a compilation of customer reviews in the following categories; conditions, value, layout, friendliness, pace of play and amenities. The course previously reached #1 in 2016 and spent the last two years in the top three for Maryland.

"We are thrilled to be ranked #1 on the Golfer's Choice list, and the greatest thing about this ranking is that it comes from our customers," said Bob Croll, head golf professional at Eagle's Landing Golf Course. "Eagle's Landing is truly a crown jewel of Ocean City that showcases the beauty of the Eastern Shore environment, offers a challenging championship course, and provides great customer service."

Designed by renowned golf course architect Dr. Michael Hurdzan, Eagle's Landing was recognized for its lush greens, an abundance of wildlife, and spectacular views of the Sinepuxent Bay and Assateague Island National Seashore. The 18-hole championship golf course features a variety of water holes, large white-sand bunkers, elevated tees, rolling fairways and contoured greens. Eagle's Landing is committed to protecting and preserving its natural resources and habitat, and is the first golf course in Maryland to be fully certified as an Audubon Sanctuary.

Eagle's Landing offers GPS-equipped golf carts, a full-service cafe, a well-stocked clubhouse, and a local rewards program for year-round residents of the Ocean City area. The program offers discounted green fees and rewards for free golf. Walking is also permitted at any time.

2020 was definitely a devilish year, to say the least. That being said, sometimes a fortunate stroke of serendipity can surprise one with unanticipated happiness and gratification. My name is Paul Frewin and I live in Springfield, Missouri. One of my ambitions has been to play golf in all 50 states, and I am currently idling on 49 as our 2020 Alaska golf trip and cruise was cancelled. I must say my golf buddy trips are just about my favorite getaways of the year - a much-needed time to relax with friends, old and new, to enjoy the game of golf we love. And, I thoroughly enjoy the planning aspect of our golf buddy trips, as well. It gives me the opportunity to choose the finest courses available in a city or state and ensure that the things that need to get done, get done properly: car rental, hotel and dining reservations for example. The sunrise/sunsets, weather history and aeration dates are all taken into account.

In 2020, my friend, Brad Johnson, a close business associate and I along with his two adult sons - Adam and Joey, (in their late twenties), wanted to begin yearly golf buddy trips. The inaugural trip was to be at Cabot Links Resort in Nova Scotia, Canada. The trip was planned far in advance and with meticulous detail with the exception that we had no antidote for the SARS-CoV-2 virus and access into Canada remained closed, finally getting the verdict of an extended travel ban to Canada several weeks before the trip. Time was tight and other options closed as well. But I then remembered a trip I had previously arranged for friends a year or two ago to Ocean City, Maryland. As background, I have also been chasing the Top 100 Courses You Can Play (now over 75 played), and I knew the Ocean City area was the location of the Top 100 Links at Lighthouse Sound and my previous research on an Ocean City golf trip had caught my attention particularly after visiting Pam's Ocean City Golf website.

As I have implied, I am a pedantic planner and found Pam's Ocean City Golf travel website to be THE most comprehensive Golf Destination Planning Site that I have ever encountered - the website includes every pertinent detail one needs to build a successful golf buddy trip from detailed reviews with photographs of the golf courses, to maintenance dates, to historic weather information, to food recommendations with the unique advantage that Pam's can arrange preferred tee-times and lodging which can be the trickiest part of any trip. They also have the inside information on available discounts when pairing certain courses together.

So, I telephoned Pam's Golf and explained that the four of us were in need of their magic to organize a last minute golf trip to Ocean City. Again my distress call was initiated in mid-July for an early August trip and I thought it was probably impossible to get anything close to what we wanted. But, within 24 hours, Pam's had rescued us with an email that had our 4-day Ocean City golf trip totally arranged, as we had requested.

We were scheduled to be in Ocean City for 3-1/2 days in early August, and they arranged for us to play 7 of the premier courses that the Ocean City, Maryland region (that includes southern Delaware) has to offer and actually, all of the Maryland courses we played, except one, were within the top 8 public access courses in the state and the three Delaware course were ranked #1, 2 and 4 in Delaware (Golf Magazine). We flew from Missouri to Washington-Reagan, and it was a pleasant 2-1/2-hour drive to Ocean City.

Pam's had miraculously arranged comfortable and convenient lodging for us a 4 bedroom, 3 bath townhouses, at River Run Golf Club, backed up to one of the beautiful par 5 holes there. This was an ideal base camp for our stay and had neatly packaged the ambitious 2 a day rounds of golf for 3 days, along with an early morning get-away round, so as to minimize travel time to and from each course. Pam's also provided suggestions for dining that were always nearby to where we would finish up our last round of golf each day, since this was our first trip to Ocean City. I mean, you can't get much more spoiled than that! (continued below)

On the evening of our arrival, we traveled just 10 minutes from River Run to the contemporary Skye-Bar and Restaurant-the Old Bay seasoning was a game changer. The views of Ocean City from the rooftop bar, particularly the sunset were amazing. And with COVID restrictions in place, it was very sad for me to see how relatively quiet the evening was, and I could only imagine how much fun the Skye-Bar would be on a typical warm summer evening in Ocean City. On our way back to River Run the golf-gods exorbitantly smiled upon us as a long line at Dumser's Dairyland caught our attention. A legal U-turn, (I think) was made, and we joined the masses for their signature "thick milkshakes". Two of us made a rookie mistake and ordered large mint chocolate chip shakes. An executive order followed mandating Dumser's every night- all four nights, after dinner. In fact, the betting on the golf course transitioned from cash to paying for Dumser's ice cream each evening, and regarding the rookie mistake, we never wandered from our original choice, mint chocolate chip too risky!!

Mornings began relatively early with our first tee-times generally before 8am. A routine morning stop at the local McDonald's passed on the way to the golf courses provided us with diet cokes and breakfast sandwiches needed for us to be ready for the long days ahead. Day 1 we played at War Admiral in the morning and Rum Pointe in the afternoon. It should be noted, that although we loved all seven courses we played, at the end of the trip we individually ranked the golf courses to our personal preference. Indeed, we prepared lots of "lists" for about everything we did. Rum Pointe was consistently a top 3 or top 4 favorite for all of us. Seaside holes 8 and 16 were particularly stunning, and the classic Dye 9th and 18th holes with water in play the entire length of the holes made for exciting competitive finishes. That evening we had reservations at The Sunset Grille, which was a big hit for all - (the Baltimore Club was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had). To our good fortune our waitress shared with us that there was another Dumser's even closer to our current location, so the day finished with another mint chocolate chip shake.

Day 2 in Ocean City: Our morning round was at the Top 100 You Can Play (Golf Magazine) Links at Lighthouse Sound (another box checked). The Links at Lighthouse Sound is a beautiful Arthur Hills- designed course built into an amazingly diverse natural setting and afforded stunning views of the Ocean City skyline. The touted "America's longest cart bridge" brings you to the back nine. For me, holes #4 and then the signature par 3, hole #5 at Lighthouse were exceptionally beautiful golf holes along the bay that rival any I've ever played. The Links at Lighthouse Sound was ranked the No. 2 favorite course on each of our lists. Our afternoon round was 15 minutes away at Bayside Resort in Selbyville, Delaware a Jack Nicklaus signature course that found its way to a No. 3 favorite on a couple of our lists. From the tips, Adam and Joey found the 18th hole to be one of the most challenging and enjoyable closing holes they have played. Dinner was close by at Lizzie's Café and Bistro where the choice between a New England ("Maine") Lobster roll and a Connecticut Lobster roll was impossible for me to make, so I simply had to get both. For Adam, the Connecticut Lobster roll at Lizzie's was declared the best sandwich he has ever had. "Large" Dumser's thick mint chocolate chip shakes followed, of course.

Day 3 was spent in Delaware: On our early morning 45-minute trip, fate again favorably intervened with a Starbucks next to a Chick-fil-A, for breakfast in Millsboro. We played at Baywood Greens Golf Course which is the # 2-ranked public course in Delaware (Golf Magazine) certainly worthy of its high ranking, maybe even underrated a fraction. Despite an extended morning drive and light rain on the front nine, this course was the unanimous #1 favorite for all of us. The Baywood Greens course was in meticulous condition and the framing of the holes with flowers, shrubbery and trees are the impetus for it's nickname "Augusta of the North". Then, on our way to the afternoon round at Bear Trap Dunes we ate at Rust's Sub and Sandwich Station on route 24. Not knowing better, we were not sure what we were getting ourselves into at this small deli with a couple of old gas pumps out front, but the service and the generous sub sandwiches were absolutely fantastic. We played the Grizzly and Black Bear nines at Bear Trap Dunes. Dinner was at Squares Pizza in Ocean City. We basically arrived as they were closing, but they welcomed us in with open arms. The service and the pizza were absolutely phenomenal, and then of course we made our last rounds at Dumser's for a "Large" mint chocolate chip shake.

On getaway day number 4 we played at Eagle's Landing- the par 5, 7th hole was one of my favorites of the trip. The breakfast sandwich at the Caddy Shack Café was voted the best breakfast sandwich ever.

The courses we played in Ocean City are all meant to be challenging and fun for golfers of all skill levels. Joey and Adam are +4's and played from the tips at each of the courses which at times required permission from the golf pro but was never a problem. Brad and I played from several tee boxes forward where "members" would generally play from. All four of us enjoyed the challenges and found the distances played to be comfortable. All in all, this inaugural golf buddy golf trip with Brad, Adam and Joey exceeded all expectations. Every one of the 7 courses Pam's OC Golf arranged for us were top-caliber in quality and the costs of the trip were shockingly reasonable, being one of the best valued golf trips I've ever been on and certainly rivaling the Jones Trail in Alabama. Personally I need to finish up my rescheduled trips to Alaska and Cabot and then definitely make plans to return to play again in Ocean City under the direction of the golf planning experts at Pam's Ocean City Golf Getaways.

I would encourage golf buddy trip leaders to peruse the Pam's Ocean City Golf website, and you'll see what I mean about the details. Pick your courses and then let the girls at Pam's OC Golf Getaways make it happen for you and your team. You'll come away looking real good, and I can assure you your golf buddies will not be disappointed!!

Whether you have played a course 20+ times a year or looking to play the course for the first time, insights from an insider can help enhance your golf experience. Below is an interview with Scot Dailey who shares some valuable tidbits about the course, memorable holes and must eats and treats at the 19th.

Give Our Readers An Overview of the Golf Course/Property The club features two 18-hole championship courses: the daily fee course "Man O' War" and the semi-private course "War Admiral Members Course." The Man O' War Course occupies the westerly portion of GlenRiddle. The course features pure, windswept links golf. The golfer faces challenges often found in the British Isles including large greens, double fairways, pot bunkers, sand dunes, and the ever-present eastern shore winds. The historic racetrack used to train champion thoroughbreds is utilized as a strategic cross hazard on three holes. Man O' War's sister course, War Admiral, is routed through mature forest and offers a completely different golf experience. The course is sheltered from the wind, but provides a demanding test from the tees. The site's beautiful tidal marsh comes into play on five dramatic holes, offering amazing views. Rugged, breathtaking bunkers reminiscent of golf's great past is the signature of the War Admiral Course.

If Someone Was Looking To Golf In The Area, Why Should They Play Your Course? There are vast differences between the styles of our two golf courses. Both are always in impeccable condition. Man O' War is a difficult links style course at the mercy of the wind. War Admiral is a more traditional tree-lined parkland style course. Both offer many difficulties to all different skill level of golfers but are fair to reward good shots. Apart from our two pristine championship courses, the GlenRiddle property has a lot of rich history to offer as well. The clubhouse building that houses the golf and restaurant operation was formerly the main stable building for the famous Riddle Farm which produced such famous racehorses as Man O' War, War Admiral and Seabiscuit.

What Tips or Local Knowledge Would You Provide To Help Them Score Better At Your Course? Man O' War - Don't go after every flag stick. Sometimes the best play can be getting anywhere on the putting surface. There are over 100 sand traps on the course, some are okay to hit out of but some of the small pot bunkers you really want to avoid. From experience, you are better off laying up than going for a shot you may only pull off one out of four times.

War Admiral - The rough is pretty thick, hitting your tee shots into the fairway is a big must. The Kentucky Blue Grass/Tall Fescue rough makes it easy to catch fliers which makes judging distance difficult. The greens have a lot of undulation, playing the course a few times helps make it easier to play, aim at the middle of the green and take your two putts and move on.

We have GPS on all our carts, I would recommend looking at it on each hole to give you an idea of what trouble lies ahead. Both courses are challenging in their own way. Each course can be challenging but fair.

Recent Awards or What You Are Most Proud About The Course? The Golf Channel Am Tour is returning to GlenRiddle in 2016, for their 3rd Annual War on the Shore. The Championship will be contested over 36-holes. All participants are scheduled to play one round at the Man O' War course and one round at the War Admiral course. Tour Players from all over the country will converge on Ocean City, MD competing for double Order of Merit Points, exemptions into the 2016 National Championship, and the coveted title of "War on the Shore Champion".

GlenRiddle is also the host site for the Triple Crown Invitational hosted by Bobby Vermillion, with Endless Golf. This invitational brings players from all over the country to compete in this pristine and competitive Invitational.

What Is The Signature, Most Talked About, or Most Photographed Hole? #13 is our signature hole on the Man O' War course. #13 is a 197 yard par 3 over water with tough pot bunkers behind the green and long native grasses to catch errant tee shots. Over this past winter, we did major renovations to #13. We reshaped the bunkers behind the green and added railroad tines to give it a unique look and we are very happy with how it turned out.

#16 is our signature hole on the War Admiral course. #16 is a 539 yard par 5 with water from tee to green on the right side, and out of bounds up the entire left side. Sand traps throughout the hole can affect your strategy to get to the green. Longer hitters have a chance of reaching the green in two but there are lots of risk for the reward. There are beautiful views of Ocean City and surrounding marshland.

What Is Your Favorite Hole? Any Tips to Play It? #3 War Admiral is my favorite. In my opinion it is the easiest of the par 5's between both courses. The opening two holes are fairly difficult and the third hole offers a momentum shift in the positive direction. It demands a well placed tee sheet, if I find myself in the fairway, a long iron can put me on the green or very close, setting up an easy birdie opportunity which can jump start my round.

#7 Man O' War is my favorite. It is a very challenging and demanding Par 5. Measures 592 from the back tees and a water hazard protects the entire left side and wraps around the back and to the right of the green. Native grasses protect the right side. Bunkers are placed everywhere from tee to green which makes each shot a little more demanding. #7 can derail a good round or really put an exclamation point on my round.

Must Have Dish or Drink after the round at the 19th Hole? Too many to choose from in our Ruth's Chris Restaurant. Everything is always delicious!

Who Holds Course Record and What Was Their Score? Jim Furyk shot a 66 on War Admiral when we opened the course.

Back Tee Stats Par: Both are 72 Yardage: Man O' War 7163 & War Admiral 6945 Slope: Man O' War 135 & War Admiral 145 Rating: Man O' War 74.3 & War Admiral 73.4

Whether you have played a course 20+ times a year or looking to play the course for the first time, insights from an insider can help enhance your golf experience. Below is an interview with Scott Cooper who shares some valuable tidbits about the course, memorable holes and must eats and treats at the 19th.

Give Our Readers An Overview of the Golf Course/Property Rum Pointe Seaside Golf Links is located along the Sinepuxent Bay across from the Assateague Island National Seashore.

Rum Pointe Seaside Golf Links has become Ocean City's "must play" golf course and one of Maryland's premier golf venues. This spectacular seaside design by the world-renowned father/son team of Pete & P.B. Dye opened in the spring of 1997. Located off Highway 611 on the Sinepuxent Bay overlooking Assateague National Seashore Park, Mother Nature and the Dye's have combined talents to bring world-class golf to the Ocean City area.

This Scottish-style links features bent-grass on the fairways and greens. Most of the 18 holes have a bay view with several holes having direct bay frontage, where you can start your ball over the water to shorten the hole. The Dyes have certainly created situations of risk and reward that will quicken the heart rate of even the most experienced golfer.

If Someone Was Looking To Golf In The Area, Why Should They Play Your Course? Rum Pointe offers pristine conditions. With our course conditions and natural setting along the bay, makes Rum Pointe a must play in the state.

What Tips or Local Knowledge Would You Provide To Help Them Score Better At Your Course? Rum Pointe was designed to take advantage of the predominant southeast winds during the prime season, but if you play on a day when the wind comes from the north or west, you will have an extremely stern test of golf. It will be important to consider the speed and direction of the wind when you make your tee selections.

Recent Awards or What You Are Most Proud About The Course? Golfweek Magazine's America's Best Courses for Maryland (2006)

What Is The Signature, Most Talked About, or Most Photographed Hole? Holes 8 and 16 are the most photographed holes. Both holes play directly along the bay and look across Assateague Island and offer an excellent backdrop for a picture. Both holes offer natural beauty that you just cannot find at any other golf courses in our area, if not the east coast. Along with the beauty, their difficulty can often be a topic of conversation as well.

What Is Your Favorite Hole? Any Tips to Play It? Hole 8, one of the courses most beautiful views of the Sinipuxent Bay, is a long par five requiring three quality shots to reach the green. A slight dogleg left, with the bay along the entire left side, makes this hole rather intriguing. Power players may be able to reach the green in two with a well played wood, but one must be careful of the bunkers and wetlands guarding the long two-tiered green.

Most golfers will make this a three shot hole. On your second shot, I would favor the right side of the fairway to allow for an easier approach on your third shot; however, there is a medium sized fairway bunker guarding that right side for that very reason. Choose the right club and pay attention to the distance to that fairway bunker. Either lay up short of the bunker or carry the bunker. Should you hit the drive long enough, the ideal shot would be to the right side of the fairway and over that right side bunker leaving a short iron and better angle at the green.

Must Have Dish or Drink after the round at the 19th Hole? The grill offers excellent lunch fare. I would recommend the chicken salad with an orange crush.

Back Tee Stats Par: 72 Yardage: 7001 Slope: 122 Rating: 72.6
